Let It Snow!

Holy Corduroy Batman! It's snowing in New England, and it's sticking!

Yes, I am unashamedly 100% a fan of the groomers. Forget the powder, that's too much work! And, latest weather reports are calling for a foot of freshies--no man made stuff--on New England slopes this weekend! Fresh powder from the Almighty before Christmas! Now that's a nice gift!...Robin, to the snowbatmobile!

Maybe I'll even get a chance to shoot some skiing action in time for a gift under the tree. Smile!

Bode's struggles continue

It appears that the roller coaster ride skiing phenom Bode Miller started last year will continue in the 2005-2006 season leading up the Olympics in February.

According to an article posted in Yahoo Sports on Friday, Daron Rahlves was the US Mens contender in Super G at Beaver Creek, an event in which Bode is usually sure to medal. Bode failed to finish. Congrats to Daron for the great showing. I hope that if it is his final season that he goes out on top...he deserves that after such an exciting career.

As for Bode...Am I worried? Not yet. Although Bode had a great start in the 2004-2005 season, he slumped in the middle and still went home with a championship globe. So, let his slump come now, early in the season when there is still plenty of time make up for the lost points.

However, it does make one wonder if maybe our favorite Granite Stater is ready for a career change, or a not so radical sabbatical.

Regardless, I, for one, am still 100% behind Bode.

The Best Skier of Our Time

...is arguably New Hampshire native Bode Miller. I'm sure some Austrian's would disagree, and Hermann Maier is a very close second, but Bode has always had a fearlessness on skis that no one else has been able to match.

Hermann Maier, aka the Herminator, is no slouch, coming back from a serious motorcycle wreck that nearly took a leg off. And, he has managed to reach Championship levels.

And American Daron Rahlves is the only American to take the Hahnenkamm, a point Austrians like to dispute, but a win is a win, nicht wahr, meine Damen und Herren?

Daron is an all-around athlete the likes of which we don't often see. I really admire and respect his abilities. But, Bode has staying power, and the uncanny ability to recover from wipe-outs to actually win the race. Maybe it's that training on the East Coast hills that did it?

There's no snow where I am, yet, and the ski racing has yet to be televised (but my TIVO is looking for it), so get some inspiration from one damn great skier, and start working on your core balance--you're going to need it to keep up with Bode ;-)

Think Snow!

It's coming! Ski season is upon us, and the McCleerys will be tuning the skis and readying ourselves for another great winter!

We're still deciding on the specific itinerary, but our February New Hampshire ski trip will definitely include Ragged Mountain--an undiscovered gem that's perfect for carving and schussing on serious blues without worrying about the kamikazes. See you on the slopes!
